Nine constitutions

Special/allergic

A special inborn type — often allergy-prone, with rhinitis and rashes

A “special” constitution is shaped by inborn factors; the most common form is allergy-prone. It shows as easy sneezing/rhinitis, itchy skin and rashes (eczema, hives), and reactions to pollen, dust mites or certain foods, often flaring at seasonal changes. The focus is to strengthen the body’s defensive qi gently — while strictly avoiding personal allergens.

Typical signs

  • Prone to sneezing and runny nose
  • Skin breaks out in itchy rashes
  • Reacts to pollen, dust mites or foods
  • Flares at seasonal transitions
Who tends to have it: People with a family history of allergy or a distinctive inborn constitution.

Favour

  • Mild, easy-to-digest, light foods
  • Astragalus, dark plum (as food therapy)
  • Honey, red date and other defence-strengthening foods

Limit

  • ·Any known personal allergens
  • ·Shellfish/“triggering” foods, spicy irritants
  • ·Highly processed foods with many additives

Lifestyle

  • Avoid allergens, keep the home clean
  • Take care during seasonal changes
  • Build resilience gradually
Tea direction: Look for gentle, defence-strengthening blends — astragalus, dark plum, red date and similar — and always avoid your own known allergens.
